About Our Founder
Growing up on a 1,000 acre farm near the Finger Lakes in Upstate New York, our Founder, Curtis Witmer has been one with the land; since he was 9 years old, he has been preparing fields, harvesting crops, operating equipment, and handling livestock.
By the age of 15, Curtis was applying fertilizer on a John Deere 4038R with 120 foot booms.
As his experience grew, so did his enthusiasm for crops.
“What can we do to make our crops better?”
He was met with the typical farmer opposition “you can’t control the weather” and “we’ve always done it this way.”
Fueled by his competitive nature, Curtis attended expos, seminars, and tested every product he could get his hands on. Although the information he learned and the products he tested did technically increase the yields — it wasn’t consistent. It increased the yields… but not if it was too hot or there wasn’t enough rain or if there was a wind storm.
One day he came to the realization: Better Roots = Better Plants.
His theory was if the roots were strong, the plant could absorb more nutrients to increase the yield PLUS stand firmer in the ground to withstand extended periods of strong winds, and most importantly hold water for longer periods of drought.
Curtis tested his instincts over a ten year period where he mixed different amounts of micronutrients and plant growth hormones until he found a stress-proof formula… which he called “RootAMax”.
So yes, Better Roots = Better Plants
Curtis introduced his product RootAMax (trademark pending) to Texas in 2022 by partnering with a friend who owns a local custom fertilizer spraying business. After two years in Texas, Curtis bought out his friends custom spraying business and named it LoneStar Ag. Curtis sprays 20,000+ acres in Henderson, Kaufman, Van Zandt, and Ellis County each year; typical crops include wheat, corn, soybeans, Coastal Bermuda and Sorghum Sudan grasses.
Curtis currently lives in Mabank, Texas where he enjoys buying and selling cattle, creating and applying custom-blend fertilizers, reading business and industry specific books, as well as spending time with his wife Mariah and his son Grant.
